City budgets $2.5M to replace aging streetlights along Tabor Boulevard
PRINCE GEORGE — Starting next week, City of Prince George work crews will begin a project to replace aging streetlight infrastructure between 15th Avenue and 1st Avenue.
The work will begin on Tuesday, and is part of a multi-year initiative aimed at replacing aging and failing streetlights across the city. New energy-efficient LED lights will be installed to enhance nighttime visibility on both streets and sidewalks, increasing safety for all road users. Construction is expected to continue through the summer and be completed by September.
The City says of more than 4,700 streetlights in Prince George, nearly 1,000 have been identified as needing replacement. Many of these were installed in the 1970s and are now beyond their service life, no longer meeting current City standards or electrical code requirements.
A total of 68 new streetlights will be installed along this section of Tabor Boulevard. The budget for the project comes in at approximately $2.5 million.
