Cougars to rematch against Winterhawks in 2025-26 season home opener
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars will get an early chance at revenge, as they’ll begin the 2025-26 WHL Season by hosting the Portland Winterhawks.
The Cougars and Winterhawks will meet at CN Centre on Sept. 19 and 20, in what will be their first games since the Winterhawks ended the Cougars’ season in a Game 7 in April.
Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Portland has bested Prince George in the playoffs in three of the last four seasons – a first round sweep in 2022, in six games in the western conference finals in 2024, and in seven games last season.
Elsewhere, the expansion Penticton Vees will play their first WHL game on Sept. 19 in Victoria against the Royals. The Vees will host the 2026 Memorial Cup hosts Kelowna Rockets on Sept. 26 in their home opener.
